Oh No, the dog ate my Will! Why Properly Storing your Will Matters
Author: Jelena Glavinic
Having a Will in place is extremely important, but it’s equally as important to know where it is and for it to be easily located when you pass away.
Being able to find your Will is crucial when it comes time for your Executor/s to obtain a Grant of Probate and administer your estate. Your Executor/s need to be able to provide to the Court your original last Will and Testament.

You have several options when it comes to storing your Will:
In your solicitor’s safe custody room;
In a safe place at home, such as filing cabinet or safe where you keep your important papers;
The NSW Trustee and Guardian for a small fee;
However it is stored, it is also important that your Executor’s are advised as to the location of the Will so that they can access it after your death.
At MCW Lawyers, we recommend storing your Will with us. After you sign your Will, we ask you if you would like a physical or digital copy for your records. You may provide this copy to your Executor or simply tell them that the original is with us and how to contact us.
MCW Lawyers office is conveniently located in Sutherland CBD. Contact us today to discuss your needs or to schedule an appointment.
