Overview

Ian Connor and Elizabeth McDonald have had considerable experience between them in this complex and active area of law.  With the new workplace law changes being debated, it is wise to get legal advice both before employing someone and before terminating an employee's services so that you know where you stand legally.  Likewise, if you are an employee who has been wrongfully terminated we can help you get what you are entitled to.

For advice on the current position and how you can best protect yourself and your business, contact us - you will not regret it.
Unfair Dismissals and Redundancies

This area of law is undergoing change.  It is a major area that can affect your business.  Contact us for advice before you terminate someone's employment.
Breaches of Employment Contract

An employment contract is a legally binding agreement between an employer and an employee.  It outlines the employee's rights and responsibilities to the employer, and also the employer's obligations towards the employee. Employment contracts may be in writing or partly in writing and partly verbal.

If an employer or principal changes the conditions of your employment or service and you do not agree to the change, this may constitute a breach of contract. You must make it clear to your employer that you do not agree to the change or you risk waiving your right to take action for a breach of your contract in the future.

We can provide you with advice as to the most appropriate course of action available to you if you think your employer has breached your contract of employment. We can also help you to negotiate the terms of your contract.
Awards and Statutory Entitlements

All employees, with some exceptions, are covered by an Award or have certain statutory requirements which must be complied with.

If your Human Resources department is unsure of its position, you should contact us for advice before you take any decision that could come back at you down the line.
