Serious Offences

There are many serious criminal offences. These include:
-  Murder, Attempted Murder, Manslaughter
-  Malicious Wounding causing Death or Grievous Bodily Harm
-  Abduction

    - Procuring an Abduction

    - Robbery/Armed Robbery
    - Extortion

    - Corruption
    - Receiving Stolen Goods
    - Criminal Destruction/Damage
    - Sabotage
-  Drug Offences
    - Importation of Prohibited Drugs
    - Possession of Prohibited Drugs
    - Use/Administer Prohibited Drugs
-  Firearms Offences
    - Possession of Unregistered Firearms
    - Sale of Unregistered Firearms
    - Using firearms to cause injury, to threaten, to rob
-  Assaults

Less Serious Offences

There are many lesser offences. Examples are:
-  Firearms Offences
    - Unregistered Firearms

These offences do carry prison sentences, but are mainly dealt with by fines and non-custodial sentences.

Driving Offences

There are many driving offences. Examples are:
-  Dangerous Driving/Dangerous Navigation causing death/grievous bodily harm
-  Drink Driving - PCA, Refuse Breath Test
-  Negligent Driving causing death or grievous bodily harm
-  Speeding over 40kph above the speed limit
-  Drive Manner Dangerous, Drive at Speed Dangerous
-  Drive Recklessly, Drive Furiously
-  Drive whilst disqualified, Drive whilst cancelled, Drive whilst suspended
-  Menacing Driving

Driving offences of a serious nature can and do attract prison sentences. In most cases, they are dealt with by way of fines with a disqualification from holding a driver's licence. Licence disqualification is mandatory in many cases, with some discretion in the Court to reduce the mandatory periods, however sometimes no discretion is available.

 
Apprehended Violence Orders

-  Confiscation of Assets and Compensation Acts
Most of these offences are dealt with by way of fines and in some cases, terms of imprisonment. The State of NSW through various legislation has enormous powers in relation to the prevention and punishment of criminal behaviour. You should make sure you are aware of your rights in relation to such matters. In too many incidences people are not aware that what they are doing is illegal.
