After saturating the New Zealand market in franchising amusement crane and prize machines under the brand “Kiwikrane”, Cliff Hopkins, founder and director of Krane Franchising Limited, decided to expand his franchise system across the Tasman to Australia.
Cliff says:
“Setting up a franchise system in a new country in the last year has been both challenging and rewarding for our team. We have been very pleased with the reception and acceptance to our business model in Australia. Although most trans Tasman franchise systems are Australian based, we are hoping we can emulate the success of NZ based franchisors such as Fastway Couriers in this “bigger pond”. We are indebted to the professional team at MCW Law for their ongoing expert advice and guidance in compliance and documentation for your stricter franchise codes. We appreciate the care and concern they have for getting things right the first time – and regard them as part of our team – not just our lawyers.”
Rick Garrity has been appointed the Victorian and Northern New South Wales master franchisee and has been hard at work since mid 2009 establishing “Koalakrane” (the Australian spin-off of Kiwikrane), in his territory.
Rick says:
“I have worked with the founder, Cliff Hopkins, for a number of years and can see why Kiwikrane is so successful in New Zealand.
Having the opportunity to be able to set up Koalakrane here in Australia has been a major highlight in my life. After just 7 months we have established 7 franchise areas run by 4 motivated and enthusiastic franchisees. I am proud to have been given the chance to run the operation in Australia and can see the fantastic long-term potential in this country. We have a demanding year ahead of us, and have set some challenging goals and targets which I am more than sure we will accomplish.
This franchise system is really a cut above the rest with so much opportunity for those creative and motivated people who want direct financial rewards for their ideas and input into the business, rather than those who sit around and wait for customers to come in their doors. We have a great team in Australia to help set up and work with our new and potential franchisees to train and nurture them as they learn how to get the best results.
I would also like to add that without MCW Lawyers, I believe the set-up and ongoing support certainly would have been a lot more challenging and time consuming, with potential for serious errors. They are a wonderful and well organised firm with switched on people whom I feel very comfortable having on our side.”
Both Cliff and Rick forecast a big year ahead for Koalakrane in Australia, with hopes to expand nationwide.
